J. Richardson Johnson
J. Richardson Johnson was a judge for the 9th Circuit Court (Trial Division) in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. He was appointed to the court by former Governor John Engler in 1993.[1] He was re-elected in 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2012.[2] Johnson retired from the bench on October 31, 2014.[3]
Education
Johnson received his undergraduate degree from Miami University (in Ohio) in 1966 and his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1969.[2]
Career
Johnson worked as a private practice lawyer in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1969 until his appointment to the 9th Circuit Court in 1993. During his tenure on that court, he served as a visiting judge for the Michigan Court of Appeals (1995 and 1996), the presiding judge for the 9th Circuit Court's Trial Division (1998-1999, 2008-2009), and the chief judge pro tempore (1997-1999, 2008-2009), and chief judge (2000-2007) for the 9th Circuit.[2]
2012 election
Johnson was re-elected to the 9th Circuit Court after running unopposed in 2012.[4] [5]
