James Reynolds (Montana)

Reynolds received his B.A. at the University of Missouri at St. Louis and his J.D. at the University of Montana.[3]

Montana held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on June 7, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was March 14, 2016.[4] James P. Reynolds defeated Dennis Loveless in the race for the 1st District Court, winning 51.48 percent of the vote.[6]
Selection method

The 43 judges of the Montana District Courts are chosen in nonpartisan elections for six-year terms. At the end of their term, they must run for re-election. If a judge is unopposed for re-election, it becomes a retention election instead.[7]
The chief judge of each district court is chosen annually on the basis of seniority.[7]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:[7]
- a U.S. citizen;
- a state resident for at least two years;
- a resident of the district represented; and
- licensed to practice law in the state for at least five years.
