An effort to recall Jeff Hobby in Worth County, Georgia, from his position as sheriff was launched in July 2017. Recall supporters criticized a drug search conducted at Worth County High School in April 2017, where every student was patted down. Sheriff Hobby released a statement after receiving complaints about the search. He said it was an authorized search where the officers were instructed to perform a nonintrusive pat down of the students, but that one officer had been more intrusive than permitted.[1][2] Recall proponents did not collect enough signatures, so the recall did not go to a vote.[3]

On the deadline to turn in the petition, recall proponents said they had only able to collect about 1,000 signatures.[3]
