Jen Weber has been a dedicated and respected Court Commissioner in Jefferson County since 2015. She serves with a commitment to justice, fairness, and efficiency in managing a wide variety of cases in the county’s court system.

Before her appointment as Court Commissioner, Jen had a distinguished career in law, having earned her law degree from Marquette in 1999 and gaining extensive experience in both family law and criminal law. Over the years, she has earned a reputation for her strong legal knowledge, integrity, and ability to make sound decisions in complex matters.

Throughout her career, she has emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the judicial system, fostering an environment of respect for the law, and working collaboratively with attorneys, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to serve the people of Jefferson County.
  • Access to the justice system is a constitutional right of each person within our country. Not only is access to the justice system crucial, but the promptness in which access occurs. As a Court Commissioner and Supervisor of the Office of the Family Court over the past 9 years, Jen has created a system within the family court that results in no backlog and case closure in 93% of cases within 6 months. This requires a dedication to the foundation of the system and a collaborative attitude to identify problem areas and find resolution to improve access to justice.
  • Integrity and honesty are characteristics that Jen demonstrates in all cases and in all interactions with litigants and other agencies. Citizens should know what to expect in the judicial process and also to expect consistent rulings.
  • Experience matters. Jen started her career as a Special Prosecutor for the District Attorney's Office. She then managed a law practice in Jefferson County for over 16 years. During this time, she argued before the Wisconsin Supreme Court twice, including the expansion of grandparents' rights in Wisconsin. For the past 9 years, she has been the Circuit Court Commissioner in Jefferson County, Supervisor of the Office of the Family Court, Director of Family Court Services and the Mental Health Review Officer for Jefferson County. In addition to these duties, she is also the Register in Probate and Department Head for Court Support Services. She is a trusted and knowledgeable support for colleagues.
Jen is a member of the steering committee for the JET Program (Judicial Engagement Team) focusing on expanding and developing the Children's Court Initiative Program. Through the development of this program, there are less children placed out of home or are returned home sooner. The team consists of many stakeholders within the community to meet the program's goal within the community. The children of Jefferson County deserve permanency within a shorter period of time and Jen is dedicated to provide this permanency quickly.
I am honest and trustworthy. There are times as a commissioner I have to render decisions that will have a very strong emotional or financial impact on a person. When I deliver those decisions, I try to deliver those decisions in the most positive light I can and to be empathic to those involved. Each person before the Court has an emotional and/or financial interest in the decision. The Court must deliver those decisions with confidence. I am loyal to the law. A judge's role is not to make new law, it is to apply the law. Each person in the community must have confidence within the Court that the law will be applied.
The core responsibilities for a Circuit Court Judge in Wisconsin are efficiently and effectively administer each case. This requires a judge to establish and maintain a case management system. This provides predictability and stability for each person involved in each case. A judge must render decisions consistent with the law. A judge should not deviate from the law for any personal or professional reasons. Each judge must be mindful of any delay tactics and stop any of those efforts. Our community deserves a judge that hears cases efficiently, in consideration of all persons involved, and to render decisions to support and protect the public. A judge is elected to this position to serve the community, this requires a judge that is mindful of the community needs and available resources. Another core responsibility is to be a mindful steward of the county's financial resources. Most of the Circuit Courts financial needs are funded by the county, not the state. In being of a conservative mindset with the financial resources to support the courts, the taxpayers of the county can be confident their money is protected from excessive or unnecessary spending.
I am running for this particular seat to be able to provide the Jefferson County community with a fair and reasonable decision in each case. This position is one of a public servant. I have been a resident of Jefferson County for 30 years. I have experienced the development and expansion of the county. I have a historical knowledge of our local legal system and what practices and policies have been successful and what has been unsuccessful. This knowledge and experience allow the community to have trust in the legal system in a time in which many are skeptical. I have seen a level of distrust within our community of the legal system and aim to make changes to restore that trust. I engage in collaborative efforts with other stakeholders to make our legal system as efficient as possible. I manage my current caseload as a commissioner to meet a disposition goal of 6 months in 93% of cases assigned. In my current role, I dispose of 40% of all cases in Jefferson County. I will carry this disposition goal and rate to the Circuit Court Judge seat. I will never lose sight of who I serve, the people of Jefferson County.
