Joan E. Ryon is an associate judge on the Sixth Circuit Court for Montgomery County in Maryland. She was appointed to the court by Governor Martin O'Malley in July 2013 and assumed office on August 8, 2013.[1][2][3] Ryon ran for re-election to the 6th Circuit Court in 2014, winning a full term expiring on December 31, 2029.[4][5]

Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 23.6 percent of the vote. She competed against Judge Audrey A. Creighton, Judge Nelson W. Rupp, Jr., Judge Gary Eugene Bair, and Daniel Patrick Connell. Ryon cross-filed as a Republican and received 19.6% of the vote in that primary. Primary candidates competed for 4 seats.
General: She faced Judge Audrey A. Creighton, Judge Nelson W. Rupp, Jr., Judge Gary Eugene Bair, and Daniel Patrick Connell in the general election on November 4, 2014, and won with 21.4 percent of the vote. Candidates competed for four open seats.Ryon's re-election was supported by the Committee to Retain the Sitting Judges of Montgomery County, Maryland.[4][6][7]

Ryon received her undergraduate degree from Frostburg State College in 1980 and her J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary in 1983.[2]
