Recall supporters
A group called For Fayetteville initiated the recall against La Tour due to his opposition to a September 2015 ballot measure that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. La Tour also faced scrutiny for incidents where he asked a barista and a city vendor about their genders.[1]
Recall opponents
La Tour told attendees at a March 28 meeting that he would not step down, saying, "I am not a quitter."[2] A supporter of La Tour made the following statement to the council:
| “ |
I want to thank you personally, Mr. La Tour...I'm thankful you are hindering some of the progress that's actually cancer against our first amendment and our religious freedoms here in Fayetteville.[2][3] |
