Cox ran for election to the 15A Judicial District.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 37 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Brad Allen. [1] 

Judicial performance evaluation

In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria as well as on their overall performance.[2]

Cox received his undergraduate degree in political philosophy from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1991 and his J.D. from North Carolina Central University in 1997.[3]

Cox opened his own private law office, John W. Cox, Attorney at Law, in 1997.[3][4]
