An effort in Lithonia, Georgia, to recall Mayor Joyce McKibben was initiated in 2008. The recall election was held on September 30, 2008, and Joyce McKibben was removed from her position.[1]

The recall election was held on September 30, 2008. Joyce McKibben was removed from office as a result of the recall. The mayor pro tem served as interim mayor until a special election could be held in November 2008.

Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized in response to the police chief being fired by McKibben. That termination was reversed by the city council on the same day.[2]
Recall opponents
McKibben accused recall organizers of initiating the effort against her after she ordered financial audits of the city, which showed abuse of city credit cards and a lack of financial controls.[2]
