Kathryn Thomas was a candidate for the 43rd District Court in Kentucky.[1] She was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Although Thomas was a nonpartisan candidate, she was a 2016 Emerge Kentucky candidate. Emerge America is an organization that supports Democratic women running for office.[2]

Kentucky held nonpartisan elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on May 17, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 26, 2016.[3] Incumbent J. Gabriel Pendleton defeated Kathryn Thomas in the Kentucky 43rd District Court general election.[1]

The judges of the Kentucky District Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections. They serve four-year terms and must run for re-election if they wish to serve again.[4][5]

Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:[4]

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
  • licensed to practice law for at least two years.
