Kenneth J. Powell, Jr.
Kenneth J. Powell, Jr. is a judge of the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was appointed by Governor Tom Corbett (R) in June 2014.[1] He ran for a full term on the court in 2015 and was elected to a term ending in 2025.[2] Powell has previously served on the court after an appointment by Governor Corbett in June 2012. He was defeated in his 2013 re-election attempt.[3][4]
Education
Powell received his undergraduate degree from LaSalle University and his J.D. from the Temple University School of Law.[5]
Career
Powell was previously a Philadelphia Municipal Court judge until his term expired in December 2011.[6]

Powell, Jr. ran for re-election to the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.
Primary: He received 43.9 percent of the vote in the Republican primary on May 21, 2013. He also cross-filed as a Democrat, but lost that primary with 4.9% of the vote.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 5, 2013, after receiving 3.3 percent of the vote. Joe Fernandes, Daniel D. McCaffery, Giovanni O. Campbell, Sierra Thomas Street, Timika Lane and Anne Marie B. Coyle were also on the ballot, competing for six open seats.

2011
Powell won the Republican Party primary on May 17 for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. He received 3 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary and 10 percent of the vote in the Republican primary.[12] He was defeated in a race for eleven seats in the general election on November 8.[13] He withdrew from the Philadelphia Municipal Court race to focus on his Court of Common Pleas candidacy.[14]
