|I've been very involved in my community board to prevent overreach. My friends and neighbors rely on me to reach out to the city council on their behalf on issues they find important, because of my history with most of the council.
I have worked to help good people, such as Quinn Kotter, run for office. And regularly consulted with him on important issues presented at the legislature. I helped him go door to door, and honed my skills speaking about political issues without attacks or name calling. I've also served as the Senate District Chair for district 10 in the Salt Lake County Republican Party and helped with many meetings and events.- My primary focus will be on individual liberty. I have really appreciated bills that have protected the right of the individual to live and conduct business without undue oversight or regulatory barriers. Government oversight should stop after insuring business is conducted safely, honestly and without negatively impacting the individual liberties of others.
- Federal government overreach is a huge problem. We must stop giving up state power and individual liberty in exchange for money from the federal government. It is a myth that politicians create jobs. They can only create policies that encourage or discourage business growth in Utah, and then they need to stay out of the way unless the environment or other people are being harmed.
- As a devoted husband and father of two children, I believe that the family unit is the cornerstone of a civil society. I support policies that strengthen families and make it easier for parents to raise their children. I have found that most people want very similar things, but disagree on how to achieve goals. It is important that we listen carefully and ask questions before criticizing others or condemning them. Most of the time, a mutually beneficial policy can be found to accomplish shared goals. For example, I believe that strictly needs based scholarships are the answer to lifting people from poverty, regardless of race. If the push back is that certain groups need more help, then make sure they are aware of needs based programs.
I will also start a broader conversation about healthcare reform and higher education reform. Both share the same issue of having too much government money dumped into them in a scattered way, which has created many unintended consequences and increased cost to the consumer, rather than creating a more competitive market. Both industries should be given specific incentives with the aim of reducing cost for the student/patient. These efforts will require coordination with US legislators, as that is where most of the rampant spending is coming from, creating inflation.
Once priorities are set, one must have the ability to articulate the problems, while working with others to find solutions. And, at the same time, request feedback on solutions to determine potential unintended consequences of any policy or legal change.
I love how the book uses stories to teach to power, effects and possibilities of our genetic make up. Some of the science is now out of date, but the idea really got me interested in genetics and biology.
Utah is one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S., leading to increased demand for housing, transportation, and urban infrastructure. This rapid growth can strain resources, escalate housing prices, and necessitate the expansion of public services, including schools, healthcare, and transportation systems.
Water Scarcity and Management
Given its arid climate, Utah faces significant challenges related to water scarcity and management. The state needs to balance the water demands of urban development, agriculture, and natural ecosystems. Innovative water management strategies and conservation efforts are crucial to address this issue.
Air Quality
Parts of Utah, particularly urban valleys, struggle with air quality issues, mainly due to vehicle emissions and industrial activities. Inversions during the winter months can exacerbate the problem, leading to health concerns and the need for regulatory measures to reduce pollution levels.
Economic Diversification
While Utah's economy is robust and diverse, there are challenges related to ensuring sustainable economic growth across all regions and industries. The state benefits from a strong tech sector, but the inland port will attract more diverse industries and investments in the state if implemented correctly. The primary focus should be allowing businesses to thrive.
