Three of the seven seats on the Laramie County School District 1 board of trustees were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Board incumbents Tim Bolin, Nate Breen, and Lynn Storey-Huylar filed for re-election and faced challengers Cameron Karajanis, Todd Reynolds, Scott Noble, and Jesse Garrett. All three incumbents succeeded in defending their seats against the challengers and won additional terms on the board. There was no primary.[1][2][3]

Laramie County School District 1 is located in Laramie County, Wyoming. The county seat and the state capital of Wyoming is Cheyenne. Laramie County was home to 97,121 residents between 2010 and 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 13,635 students.[7]

Demographics

Laramie County outperformed Wyoming as a whole in terms of higher education attainment from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 26.8 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 25.1 percent of state residents as a whole. The median household income for the county was $58,324, compared to $58,252 for the state. County residents lived below the poverty level at a rate of 10.8 percent, while that rate was 11.1 percent for state residents.[6]
