The South Dakota State Senate primary election took place on June 6, 2000, and a general election on November 7, 2000. Eugene M. Schulte was defeated by Robert C. Spartz in the Democratic primary.[1] Diedrich was unopposed in the Republican primary. Robert Weber ran as an independent candidate. Diedrich defeated Spartz and Weber in the general election.[2]
