A Lawrence Township Police Tax Levy question was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Stark County, which is in Ohio, where it was defeated.

This question would have authorized the Township of Lawrence to impose a replacement property tax levy of 1.5 mills ($1.5 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for a continuing period of time in order to fund police services.[1]

Language on the ballot:

A replacement of one and five-tenths (1.5) mills of an existing levy and an increase of five-tenths (0.5) mill to constitute a tax for the benefit of Lawrence Township Police District for the purpose of providing and maintaining motor vehicles, communications, other equipment, buildings, and sites for such buildings used directly in the operation of a police department, or the payment of salaries of permanent or part-time police, communications, or administration personnel to operate the same, including the payment of any employer contributions required for such personnel under section 145.48 or 742.33 of the Revised Code, or the payment of costs incurred by townships as a result of contracts made with other political subdivisions in order to obtain police protection at a rate not exceeding two (2) mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to twenty cents ($0.20) for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for a continuing period of time, commencing in 2013, first due in calendar year
