The Maine Passagassawaukeag River Bridge Bond Issue, also known as Referendum Question No. 1, was on the September 9, 1959 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred bond question, where it was approved. The measure issued up to $3.9 million in bonds to construct a bridge across the Passagassawaukeag River at Belfast.[1][2]
Background
At the time this bond issue was placed on the ballot, the state of Maine had $44,040,000 in bonded indebtedness for various bridge and ferry projects.[2]
