Recall reports

An effort in South Tucson, Arizona, to recall Mayor Ildefonso Green and City Councilmen Rufino Cantu, Robert Larribas, and Carlos Romo was initiated in September 2017. All four officials were successfully recalled.

Rita Rogers, a former city council candidate, submitted approximately 450 signatures to the city clerk in the first week of September 2017. The Pima County Recorder's Office certified enough valid signatures for each official to require a special election.[1] The city council set the recall election for March 13, 2018.[2]

Recall vote

The recall election took place on March 13, 2018. All four officials were recalled. Voters chose replacement candidates in the case of the recall's approval. Paul Diaz, Rita Rogers, Herman Lopez, and Roberto Teso won the most votes for city council. The city council replaces ousted mayors.[2]

Recall supporters

Rogers argued that the mayor and city council reduced funding for city pensions, reduced firefighting staff, and used the reserve fund to cover a $650,000 budget deficit.[1]

Recall opponents

Green responded to Rogers' effort by saying that the effort would waste time and resources because the end of his term in spring 2018 would coincide with the earliest possible date for a recall election.[3] No other targeted officials provided public responses as of September 8, 2017.
