Norbert P. Smith

Norbert P. Smith was a Minnesota Fifth Judicial District judge for Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He was appointed to this position in 1992 and was elected to full terms in 1994, 2000 and 2006. He retired on September 11, 2010.[1] He was subsequently appointed to serve statewide as Senior Judge from September 13, 2010, until June 30, 2011.[2]

Education

Smith holds a B.S. degree from Mankato State University (1972) and a J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Law School (1975). Prior to attending college, he also served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969.[2]

Career

Judge Smith began his legal career in 1975 as a private practice lawyer. He practiced in Mankato and North Mankato, MN until his judicial appointment in 1992. During this time, he also worked as an assistant attorney for Blue Earth County (1977-80) and North Mankato City Attorney (1978-92). During his tenure on the Fifth Judicial District, Smith served as Assistant Chief Judge from April 2000 to July 2001 and as Chief Judge from July 2001 to June 2005.
