An attempt to remove Paul Howard from his position as District Attorney of Atlanta, Georgia using the recall process was launched by the Southeastern Legal Foundation. It was later abandoned in 2005 and did not go to a vote.[1]

Howard was targeted for recall because of disagreements regarding the plea bargains he entered into. Supporters of the recall contended Howard was too easy on people convicted of crimes, stating, for example, that his office did not "fully prosecute the mother of Destiny Ashe, a five-week old infant who died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head."[2]

Supporters of the effort were required to collect at least 138,000 valid signatures in order to trigger a recall election.[2]
