Pete Thaw holds an at-large seat on the Kanawha County school board in West Virginia. He was orginially elected to the chamber in 1998 and won re-election on May 13, 2014.

Thaw is a graduate of Morris Harvey College, where he was a recipient of the Claude J. Davis Award. He served as Mayor of Sistersville from 1960 to1969, Deputy Secretary of State of West Virginia from 1969 to1973, Executive Assistant in the Governor's Office of Economic and Community Development from 1977 to 1980 and Director of Manpower Planning from 1980 to 1985. Thaw served as State Presiding Judge for the West Virginia Racing Commission for 11 years and served on the Charleston Planning Commission from 1996 to 1998. He is marred to Patricia Thaw, and has one son and two grandchildren.[1]
