Campaign themes
White's campaign website listed the following campaign themes for 2014:[1]
Computer specialists
|
"I would like to see an increase in computer specialists in our schools. We live in a technical world and many of our teachers use that technology in the classroom with computers, smart boards, etc. We need individuals who are trained to take care of any issues that occur throughout the day instead of expecting the teachers to stop quality teaching time to do so." |
Overcrowding
|
"Overcrowding in our schools is a major issue in some areas. There are certain classrooms which push the walls to their limits. Overcrowding our classrooms permits the teacher to have less individualized time to focus when there are more students in their room. If a student is struggling, there just isn't enough time to help them as much when they would in a smaller class. I believe we need to set our teachers and their students up for success from day one." |
Year round schooling
|
"I am a believer of year round school. Shorter summer breaks would mean a less likely chance of summer learning loss and less of a need to re-teach at the beginning of each school year after long breaks allowing teachers to use their classroom time more efficiently. A study by Silva in 2007 showed students with lower test scores increased their academic skills with more instruction time. Students who have difficulty with attention such as young elementary students or those with a disability are likely to get more out of the frequent breaks which also may reduce the amount of behavior issues in the classroom.
