An effort to recall Ralph Dotson from his position on the Lakeside Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors in Coos County, Oregon, began in 2016. The recall was approved by nearly 60 percent of voters on August 16, 2016.[1]
Stacy Dunn, a firefighter, was the chief petitioner. Dotson joined the board in July 2015.[2]

Voters approved the recall on August 16, 2016. Dotson said that he wasn't surprised by the outcome because "the people who wanted [him] out are very vocal."[3]

Recall supporters needed 144 valid signatures to get the recall on the ballot. The number of valid signatures required to force a recall election is 15 percent of the total number of votes cast in the public officer’s electoral district for all candidates for governor at the last election at which a candidate for governor was elected to a full term. The signatures were turned in July 2016. The county clerk verified 171 signatures and rejected 29.[2]
