Richard Ellis
Richard Ellis was the Utah Treasurer. He was first elected in 2008 and assumed office on January 5, 2009.[1] He was re-elected on November 6, 2012. He resigned on October 16, 2015, effective November 1, to take a job as the senior director of compliance and communications at the Utah Educational Savings Plan.[2] He was succeeded by Chief Deputy Treasurer David Damschen.[3]
Biography
Ellis was born and raised in Klamath Falls, Ore. He earned a B.S. in business administration from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah. He also has over 25 years experience in public finance. Before his election, Ellis served for nine years as the Chief Deputy State Treasurer and three years as the Director of the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget and the Executive Director of the Department of Administrative Services. He has also worked as an investment banker with Dougherty, Dawkins, Strand & Bigelow and as the assistant treasurer with the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. Ellis is as an adjunct instructor of cash management and investments at his undergraduate alma mater's Maricott School of Business.[1]

Political career
Utah Treasurer (2009-2015)
Ellis was first elected to the statewide office of Utah State Treasurer in 2008. He was re-elected on November 6, 2012.[1][4]

Ellis sought re-election to the treasurer's office in 2012. He was unopposed in the June 26 Republican primary. Stout defeated Democrat Christopher Stout and Libertarian Vincent Marcus in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4]

Ellis and his wife, Joyce, have lived in West Jordan, Utah, for more than 20 years and have six sons.[1]
