An effort to recall then-Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed was judicially invalidated in February 2005.[1]

Background

Martin Ringhofer and Linda Jordan filed the recall petition. They argued that Reed committed "misfeasance or malfeasance" during the November 2, 2004, election because he certified results for the governor's race even though it was an election "he knew was wrought with violations of election laws and regulations." Jordan said, "It is clear to us Mr. Reed knowingly failed to perform his duty." Judge Chris Wickham of the Thurston County Superior Court dismissed the case, saying that the charges against Reed, even if proven true, did not warrant a recall.[1]
