October 21, 2020: Sixty percent (60%) of voters prefer a candidate with populist leanings over a more traditional candidate. A PoliticalIQ.com poll found that 36% prefer a more traditional candidate.[1]

The survey offered voters a choice between four presidential candidates with equal skills and temperaments. In that case:

  • 36% favor a Republican who supported policies similar to President Trump (R)
  • 24% prefer a Democrat who supported policies similar to Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)
  • 24% prefer a more traditional Democrat
  • 12% would support a more traditional Republican[1]

For Republicans, the numbers show that the populists outnumber the traditionalists by a 3-to-1 margin. Democrats are evenly divided.[1]

“Not surprisingly, those wanting a Republican similar to Trump are almost unanimous in support of the president. And, those who prefer any sort of Democrat are almost unanimous in opposition to the president. However, there is a great divide among those who prefer a more traditional Republican candidate. Fully one-third of them (34%) are voting for Biden.”
