October 5, 2020: In this year’s congressional elections, 20 of the nation’s 435 congressional races have only one major party candidate on the ballot. That’s down from 38 two years ago and the lowest number of races without a major party challenger since at least 1920.[1]
Four of these races are in Massachusetts, three in Alabama, and two in New York.[1]
Twelve of the 20 do not have a Republican candidate, guaranteeing them to Democrats.[1]
Eight U.S. House races do not have a Democratic candidate, guaranteeing them to Republicans.[1]
