September 26, 2017: Ballotpedia has tracked a total of 65 noteworthy endorsements for Roy Moore and Luther Strange in the race for the Alabama Senate. The Republican primary will be decided at the polls today in a runoff. The winner will proceed to a general election in December.

President Trump has endorsed Strange, but his former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, has endorsed Moore. Overall, Moore has been backed by a total of 50 elected officials, national figures, organizations, and PACs, while Strange has gained the endorsements of 15.

Of those who backed Mo Brooks, the third-place finisher in the August 15 Republican primary, five have switched their endorsements to align with Moore in the runoff election: Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Rep. Ed Henry (R-Ala.), Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and the Senate Conservatives Fund PAC.

Seen as a battle between the establishment Republicans, represented by Strange, and the party’s base, represented by Moore, the runoff has generated a flood of campaign spending topping $12 million. Luther Strange was appointed to fill the seat on a temporary basis until this election is resolved. The circumstances of his appointment have been a source of controversy in the campaign.
