Seven new judges appointed to Maryland Circuit Courts

Annapolis, Maryland: After months of interviews with candidates, Governor Martin O'Malley appointed seven new judges to the Maryland Circuit Courts on September 28, 2011. "I am pleased to announce today the appointment of seven highly qualified, talented and diverse candidates from across the State to serve on Maryland's bench," the Governor stated.

Baltimore City - 8th Circuit Court:

  • Jeannie J. Hong, a judge of the First District Court, was appointed to the Baltimore City Circuit Court. She has served as a District Court judge for nine years. She will be the first judge with an Asian background to serve on the state's Circuit Court level.
  • Michael Wilson Reed, a lawyer with the Law Office of Peter T. Nicholl, was also appointed to the Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Prince George's County - 7th Circuit Court:

  • DaNeeka V. Cotton, another judge of the Fifth District Court, was also appointed to the Prince George's County Circuit Court. She has served on the District Court since 2006.
  • Hassan Ali El-Amin was also elevated from the Fifth District Court to the Circuit Court. He has served on the District Court since 2000.
  • John Paul Davey, who has spent the last 21 years as a private practice lawyer in Prince George's County, was appointed to the circuit court judgeship.
