I live in Eagan with my husband and two daughters. We enjoy being outside as much as possible year-round. I grew up on a small farm outside of Northfield-in Dakota County's Greenvale Township.

For me, the connection to our land and plants remains very important. I love growing Minnesota natives in my yard–especially when I walk and hear happy bees buzzing around. (I also enjoy how these plants adapt well to drought). Every year I stock my pantry with home-canned items, made from the best of our seasonal produce bounty.

The Soil and Water Conservation District "provides technical assistance and financial incentives to Dakota County residents, municipalities and businesses to conserve and manage land and water resources. This is done in partnership with federal, state and local governments as well as local watershed management organizations. "

Part of this mission is to provide awareness, invitation, and collaboration with our neighbors, the city of Eagan, as well as the county. I love being part of the City of Eagan Sustainability team to help the City shape a working plan for all citizens AND businesses.

My day job is marketing. Cross-collaborative work is where I shine. Building partnerships and getting the word out about options in our county is critical to encouraging actions where everyone can join in. My goal is to increase awareness, invite others to join in some aspect of conservation, and collaborate.
  • ** Increase awareness. ** Does our average Eagan neighbor know what is offered and why? How are they aware of what the geologic history and make-up of our region is-and how that affects our everyday choices? How do things like server farms, commercial farming operations, and run-off into our many lakes affect our water quality? Why does that matter? It begins with increasing awareness and education, and meeting folks where they are showing up!
  • ** Collaboration. ** In order to increase awareness, there could be more collaboration at the city-wide level to get the word out about options within Dakota County Soil & Water. I'm already doing that by being part of the Climate Action Planning Committee. I have built great relationships with folks at the city level and have ideas on how to bring Soil & Water Programs to where folks already are showing up.
  • ** Invitation. ** I think everyone can do something small to help conserve our resources, they just need to be invited into the "what" and the "why". It's not fearmongering-it's the idea that we too have an impact in our everyday actions! I think often of folks who were farming in Eagan (check out Holz Farm if you want a slice of Eagan history). While they made choices out of necessity (collecting rain water so you don't have pump more water and haul it)-with awareness around options and choices, we can all pitch in!
My parents. They are exemplars of living out their values and faith. My folks have long inspired my inclination towards conservation, having grown up observing their careful care of the land they own.
I love collaboration and compromise, which makes building bridges with all types of folks easy, as well as creative thinking.
A more peaceful and healthy land.
I remember vaguely the Challenger Space Shuttle exploding. I was 6. Much more acutely, I remember September 11, 2001. I was 21 at the time.
Calf Nursery Manager, on my parents' farm-Dayspring Farm. I had it until age 18!
Too many to count! But Anne of Green Gables is up there right now. The Lager Queen by J. Ryan Stradal also ranks up there, as well as Climbing the Mango Trees by Madhur Jaffrey.
Q: What's the difference between a trampoline and a banjo? A: You take your shoes off to jump on the trampoline.
More transparency = more accountability. Government officials are elected by the people and FOR the people. There is a responsibility to one's constituents -- and communication and transparency are the first steps towards that.
