Four seats on the Spartanburg County School District 6 School Board were up for election on November 3, 2015.

Incumbents Charles Boyd, Lynn Harris, Wendell Lee won re-election to their seats. Henry Ross defeated incumbent Alex Meadows for the fourth seat up for election.[1][2][3]

Spartanburg County School District 6 is located in northwestern South Carolina in Spartanburg County. The county is Spartanburg. The county was home to 293,542 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[4] Spartanburg County School District 6 was the 20th-largest school district in South Carolina, serving 11,023 students during the 2012-2013 school year.[5]

Demographics

The county underperformed compared to the rest of South Carolina in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 21.3 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 25.1 percent of state residents. The median household income in the county was $42,919, compared to $44,779 for the state. The poverty rate for the county was 17.9 percent, compared to 18.1 percent for the entire state.[4]

The Spartanburg County School District 6 School Board consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. All members represent the district at-large. Four seats were up for election on November 3, 2015, and the remaining five seats were up for election on November 7, 2017.

School board candidates had to file for this election with the Spartanburg County Office of Registrations and Elections by August 19, 2015. To vote in the election, residents had to register by October 3, 2015.[7]
