Steve Emery was a candidate for the Henry, Oldham and Trimble Counties Family Court of the 12th Judicial Circuit in Kentucky. Emery was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Kentucky held nonpartisan elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on May 17, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 26, 2016.[1] Doreen Goodwin defeated Steve Emery and Michael Pate in the Kentucky 12th Circuit Family Court general election.[2]

Selection method

Judges of the Kentucky Family Courts are elected to eight-year terms in nonpartisan elections. They must run for re-election if they wish to serve subsequent terms.[3][4]

The chief judge is selected by his or her peers and serves a two-year term.[3]

Qualifications
In order to serve on this court, a judge must be:[3]

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
  • licensed to practice law for at least eight years.
