Thad Flowers is an Atlanta native with deep roots in the community and a strong record of professional leadership. Born and raised in Atlanta, he has spent his life working to make the city a better place for the people who call it home. Thad’s experience bridges public service and private-sector management, giving him the tools to deliver effective, accountable results for Atlanta residents.

As District Chief of Staff to the Atlanta City Council, Thad managed daily operations, advanced policy initiatives, and strengthened constituent services. He worked closely with city departments, community leaders, and partner organizations to solve problems and deliver results for neighborhoods. His tenure was defined by a focus on efficiency, collaboration, and responsiveness to residents’ needs.

Before entering government, Thad built a successful 15-year career in the automotive industry, rising to General Sales Manager for a Fortune 500 company. In that role, he led large teams, managed budgets, mentored staff, and consistently drove growth and customer satisfaction. This experience honed his skills in leadership, communication, and accountability.

Today, Thad serves as a Senior Public Affairs Specialist, guiding public engagement and government relations for major transportation and infrastructure projects across Atlanta. He holds an Executive MBA from Georgia Tech and remains committed to building safer streets, stronger infrastructure, and a more connected Atlanta for all.
  • Transportation and Mobility We must address Buckhead’s chronic traffic congestion through enhanced transit access, expanded non-motorized mobility options, and safely linking residents to schools, parks, employment centers, and the district’s three MARTA stations. Special attention should be given to improvements along Wieuca, Peachtree Dunwoody, and Old Ivy Roads. Council must also use its legislative and oversight role to ensure District 7’s many capital projects stay on track through construction completion, including the Buckhead Area Smart System, Blueway Trail Planning, Lenox Road Safe Street, Piedmont Road Capacity Improvements, and the Wieuca Road Roundabout.
  • Public Safety Public safety is a top priority. We should support fully staffed, well-trained, and competitively paid police and fire departments that are equipped to protect, serve and be accountable to all residents. Together, we can continue implementing the Buckhead Security Plan, find viable solutions for the area’s unsheltered population and adequately fund the three Zone 2 precincts and two Battalion 6 stations within the district.
  • Service Delivery My top priority is restoring confidence that City Hall can deliver for District 7. Residents deserve reliable, efficient city services that reflect the taxes they pay. I will focus on improving response times, strengthening accountability, and ensuring basic services like street repairs, sanitation, and infrastructure maintenance are done right the first time. When service delivery works, our entire community becomes safer, cleaner, and stronger.
I am most passionate about transportation, infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility. Atlanta’s long-term success depends on solving the challenges that keep our city moving, including reducing traffic congestion, improving sidewalks, expanding transit access, and strengthening connections between neighborhoods. I am equally focused on ensuring the City manages its budget wisely and invests responsibly so we can afford to fund Atlanta’s future. Smart planning and sound fiscal management are essential to building a city that works for everyone.
The most important characteristics for an elected official begin with honesty, integrity, and a clear sense of purpose — a true north star that guides every decision. Public service is a responsibility built on trust, and trust can only be earned through transparency, consistency, and doing what is right even when it is not easy or popular. An effective leader must be grounded in strong values and an unwavering commitment to the people they serve.

Equally important is the ability to build connections and find common ground. The best elected officials are those who can listen, bring people together, and bridge divides between neighborhoods, stakeholders, and competing interests. Progress happens when leaders collaborate, communicate, and create space for all voices to be heard.

Competence and aptitude also matter. Understanding complex issues, budgets, and policy frameworks is essential to making thoughtful, informed decisions. A strong leader must be able to see the big picture while managing the details, blending vision with execution, and aligning multiple agendas into one cohesive path forward.

Above all, I believe in people and in the potential of government to make life better when it functions with purpose and accountability. Leadership is not about personal ambition but about service. It’s about creating conditions where communities thrive, opportunities expand, and everyone has a fair chance to succeed. An elected official must hold that belief at the center of everything they do.
The first historical event I remember from my lifetime was the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle. Like most school kids at the time, we watched the launch live on television, excited to see history being made. When the shuttle exploded, the classroom went completely silent. It was devastating and difficult to comprehend at that age. I remember being deeply affected by the loss of the astronauts and by how the entire nation grieved together. It was one of the first moments that made me realize how events in the world can touch everyone. No matter our differences, we were all connected.
My very first job was something I created for myself. As a kid, I earned my allowance by polishing shoes and detailing cars. It taught me the value of hard work, pride in doing a good job, and the satisfaction of earning something on my own.

My first official job was at Zoo Atlanta, where I worked for about a year. It was a great experience and gave me my first real introduction to responsibility, teamwork, and customer service. After that, I joined Six Flags, which was the largest employer of teens in the region at the time. It was a much more fast-paced and exciting environment, and it reinforced what I learned early on — that showing up, working hard, and connecting with people are the foundation for success in any role.
The most effective members of City Council are those who bring a diverse set of skills that combine practical experience, strategic vision, and the ability to work collaboratively across different sectors. Having both public and private sector experience is invaluable. The private sector teaches accountability, efficiency, and results-oriented management, while public service requires empathy, transparency, and a focus on the greater good. Together, these perspectives create a balanced approach to leadership that values both fiscal discipline and community impact.

Strategic planning is also essential. Councilmembers must be able to think long-term, anticipate challenges, and create policies that prepare the city for growth rather than simply reacting to crises. Strategic thinking helps ensure that decisions made today strengthen Atlanta’s future, from infrastructure investments to affordable housing, transportation, and public safety.

Legislative expertise is another critical skill. Understanding how to write, amend, and advance legislation, as well as how to navigate the procedural and political aspects of City Hall, allows a Councilmember to move from ideas to implementation. Knowing how to build coalitions, count votes, and negotiate policy outcomes is what turns vision into real results for residents.

Cross-functional collaboration is equally important. The ability to bring together city departments, neighborhood groups, and regional partners is what makes projects succeed. City government operates best when leaders understand how to align the interests of multiple stakeholders toward a shared goal.

Finally, excellent communication skills are the foundation of effective leadership. A Councilmember must be able to listen actively, explain decisions clearly, and communicate with honesty and respect. Whether engaging with residents, colleagues, or business leaders, clear communication builds trust and helps ensure that every voice is heard.
