This week's Federal Vacancy Count includes nominations, confirmations and vacancies from January 21, 2014, to January 27, 2015. Nominations, confirmations and vacancies occurring on January 27th will be reflected in the January 21st report.
There was one vacancy created this week. The Senate Judiciary Committee held its first meetings of the 114th Congress on January 21st and January 22nd.
The vacancy warning level remained at blue this week after one new vacancy, no new nominations and no new confirmations. The vacancy percentage rose to 5.1%, and the total number of nominees waiting for confirmation remained at 11. The number of vacancies of Article III judges rose to 45 out of 874. Eastern District of New York
Sandra Feuerstein
On January 21, 2015, Sandra Feuerstein assumed senior status on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.[1] Feuerstein was appointed to the court by President George W. Bush in 2003. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont in 1966 and her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.[2] The transition creates a second vacancy on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The vacancy warning level rose from blue to yellow. |
