Lee filed to run as a Liberty Union candidate in the 2016 election for governor of Vermont.[1] As a minor party candidate, he did not appear on the August 9 primary ballot. He competed in the November general election against Democratic candidate Sue Minter and Republican candidate Phil Scott.
