Seven of the 11 seats on the Public Schools of Robeson County school board were up for general election on March 15, 2016. A total of 20 candidates filed for the seats in this election.[1]

The seats of Loistine DeFreece, Jo Ann Lowery, Bosco Locklear, John Campbell, Gary Strickland, Randy Lawson and Steve Martin were up for election. For the District 1 seat, DeFreece ran for re-election unopposed and won. In District 4, Locklear faced two challengers: Harold Hunt and Charles Bullard.[1] Bullard was successful in ousting the incumbent from the board and won the District 4 seat. Similarly, in District 5, Strickland also ran against two challengers: Craig Lowry and Larry Anthony Chavis. Once again, a newcomer was victorious with Lowry winning election to the seat. In District 7, Martin faced and defeated two challengers: Billy Prevatte and Brenda Allison. Finally, ten candidates vied for the three at-large seats, including incumbents Lawson, Lowery and Campbell: Darek Hunt, Severeo Kerns, Richard Monroe, Mary Thomas-Locklear, Elton L. Tyndall, Robert Davis and Brian Freeman.[1] Two of the incumbents—Cambell and Lawson—won, and one newcomer joined them in their victory: Brian Freeman.
