Barksdale was defeated in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 13. He was unopposed in the primary election on August 2, 2011. Incumbent Willie Simmons ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Barksdale lost to Simmons in the general election on November 8, 2011.[1]
