There was a petition drive for a Georgetown Township Rezoning Referendum in Ottawa County.

This petition was not approved for the ballot.

Petitions submitted their petition on November 5th, handing in 4,317 signatures in the hopes that at least 3,467 are valid and will push the petition on to a referendum vote. The township manager estimated about two weeks to verify all the signatures, after which if there are the required amount a date would be set to have the vote. The issue the petition addresses is the rezoning of the Georgetown Little League complex area which the township's board voted 5-2 in favor of rezoning into a commercial area of land so that a supermarket could be built on the site. Families for Fair Planning is the group behind the petition drive and are optimistic that the rezoning will be rejected if it is put on the ballot for a vote. The planning commission for the potential building has been put on hold until the referendum issue is resolved.[1]
