Don Layton

Don A. Layton is a judge for the Anderson County General Sessions Court in Anderson County, Tennessee. He is based out of Clinton, Tennessee.[1] He was elected without opposition to this position in August 1998 and took office the following September 1, 1998.[2][3] He was re-elected in 2014 for a term that expires on August 31, 2022.[4][5]

Primary: He ran unopposed in the Republican primary on May 6, 2014.
General: He defeated Ryan M. Spitzer in the general election on August 7, 2014, receiving 63.6 percent of the vote.

Education
Layton received his B.S. degree from Austin Peay University in 1969 and his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1972.[3]
Career
Layton began his legal career in 1973 as a private practice lawyer. He worked in that position until 1991, when he became clerk and master for Anderson County. He was then elected to the General Sessions Court in 1998. Prior to his legal career, he worked as a school teacher for Oak Ridge School from 1969 to 1970 and 1972 to 1973. Between that time, he worked for the Student University of Tennessee College of Law.[2][3]
