Tom Purcell was a candidate for District 5 representative on the Daviess County Board of Education in Kentucky. Purcell withdrew from the race before the general election on November 8, 2016.

Three of the five seats on the Daviess County Public Schools school board were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. In District 3, C. Todd Anderson defeated incumbent Dianne Burns Mackey. In District 4, incumbent Frank Riney III ran unopposed and won re-election to his seat.[1]

Incumbent Tom Purcell filed to run for re-election in District 5 but withdrew from the race before the election; his name still appeared on the ballot. Newcomer Dale Stewart won the race as a write-in candidate.[2]

Purcell withdrew from the race for the District 5 seat, but his name still appeared on the ballot. Although Purcell received the majority of the vote, write-in candidate Dale Stewart won the seat with 100 votes.
