All five seats on the Autauga County School System school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held for the District 3 seat on March 1, 2016.
Incumbents Eleanor Ballow (R), Jim Manderson Jr. (R), Mark Hindman (R), Jeffrey Keith (R) and Ledronia Goodwin (D) filed for re-election. The only contested race was the District 3 primary, with Hindman defeating challenger Barb Mokrzycki (R).[1]
Ballow, Manderson, Hindman, Keith, and Goodwin won re-election without opposition in the general election.[1]

Voter and candidate information
The Autauga County School Board consists of five members elected by district to six-year terms. All five seats were up for election in 2016. Each board member is a resident and qualified voter of the county. District rules also prohibit board members from working for the district in other positions or receiving business contracts approved by the board during their service. There are no term limits on county school board members in Alabama.[2]

Prospective board candidates were required to file with county party officials by November 6, 2015. Candidates must be 18 years old and reside in their counties for at least one year prior to the election.

The Autauga County School System is located in Autauga County in central Alabama. The county seat is Prattville. Autauga County was home to 55,395 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[7] The district was the 15th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 9,556 students.[8]
Demographics
Autauga County underperformed compared to the rest of Alabama in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 20.9 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 22.6 percent for Alabama as a whole. The median household income in Autauga County in 2013 was $53,682, compared to $43,253 for the entire state. The poverty rate in 2013 was 12.1 percent in Autauga County, compared to 18.6 percent statewide.[7]
