Brian F. Howard
Brian Howard was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 43 of the New York State Senate.
Campaign themes
2014
Howard's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Improve Economic Development
- Excerpt: "It’s time we develop regional plans for economic development that revitalize small businesses and historic main streets. Farmlands most be protected and preserved so local agriculture can be sustained and thrive. For the economy to flourish, citizens and businesses of New York must have an efficient, effective, and well-maintained infrastructure, which includes full broadband access in all areas."
Raise the Minimum Wage
- Excerpt: "Brian believes that working men and women are the backbone of our democracy and our economy. Legislation to improve the economy must focus on them. The first step is a minimum wage that will allow workers to support their families and participate fully in our consumer-based economy. It’s time to raise the minimum wage in New York."
Strengthen Education
- Excerpt: "Every generation wants to ensure greater opportunities for their children and the best way to do that is to provide them with an excellent education. To that end, education must be fully funded. Brian will fight to adequately and fairly fund public education. He will work to suspend implementation of Common Core and reevaluate it to provide necessary reforms."
Replace the School Property Tax
- Excerpt: "The current school property tax is a massive burden on everyday New Yorkers. It must be replaced as a means for supporting education. The recent property tax cap proves the current system is unmanageable, inequitable, and failing. Brian will work to develop and promote a fair, reasonable, and sustainable alternative."
Prevent Hydrofracking in New York
- Excerpt: "There’s no evidence to show that blasting chemicals deep into the earth is safe for our environment and our water supply. Because there are so many potential negative impacts of hydraulic fracturing on our drinking water, our health, and our future generations, Brian will fight to keep fracking out of New York State. The risks just don’t outweigh the benefits."
