The Issues:
As a business leader Dave understands that the mismanagement with the City of Las Vegas continues to lose our residents jobs, housing, and resources to Henderson and even North Las Vegas due to red tape. Dave will bring a new voice to make city government fast and efficient.
The city has squandered countless hard-earned tax dollars on homelessness while Dave Marlon opened a non-profit to solve the crisis. To Dave the solution is clear, these resources should be poured into programs that actually provide real results. The heat alone in the summer kills over 500 unhoused people in our city. This needless death must stop; we need to make it harder to live on the streets of Las Vegas: limiting vagrancy, panhandling, and providing resources to the programs that work to get people off the streets and back to work.
The current Councilwoman has failed to develop or implement a path for responsible growth for Ward 6. Dave has a proven Las Vegas track record for building consensus and moving forward. This means sustainably growing the ward, providing more secure and reliable jobs, adding community centers, churches, and developmental agreements that benefit the community.
Las Vegas shouldn’t be a city full of people living paycheck to paycheck it should be a city on a hill for those looking for a better future: this involves expanding Las Vegas beyond the hospitality capital of the world and to a city that accommodate every major industry from technology to artificial intelligence to healthcare to clean energy to filmmaking.
Dave recognizes that Las Vegans are suffering a major affordability crisis. With Las Vegas recently cited as having the worst urban unemployment rate in the entire country we need to do more to get our citizens back to work and able to afford the cost of day-to-day life. While Dave’s opponents have lobbied the state legislature and passed city legislation to extend tax credits that continue to gauge money from hard working property owners, fixed-income seniors, and young families Dave commits to not raising taxes, particularly in this harsh economic climate. On top of this, Dave champions the movement to revolutionize the housing market and create paths that allow for attainable homes for all Las Vegans.
Dave supports our first responders and supports law and order in our communities. Dave commits to keep all Las Vegans safe. In that regard, Dave will push for Ward 6 to have a second substation built within his first term and city ordinances that keep communities safe and happy.
Dave is immensely focused on education, as a Doctor of Psychology he understands first hand the benefits of enriching the mind. Dave pledges to work with the city to expand accessibility to childcare through our local community organizations. He vows to work closely with CCSD to fix the education gaps caused by the pandemic, the teacher shortage, and to drastically bring down the truancy rate and expand the graduation rate. Effective government can ensure that every child has equal access to education, literacy, and a path to a successful future.
Dave Marlon has a proven track record of turning vision into reality. With both Vegas Stronger and Solutions Recovery, he invested his own 401K savings to build companies that grew into organizations with more than 100 employees each. These ventures not only created good-paying jobs but also saved lives through innovative rehab and recovery programs. Dave’s entrepreneurial drive and commitment to community impact bring a perspective that is missing on City Council—and it’s the kind of spirit Ward 6 needs.

I have worked for about 40 years. Now as I retire, I would like to serve the good people of my community.

Support growth, shape and protect the community.

Dramatically reduce homelessness, improved neighborhood safety and supported growth of Las Vegas.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
Neil Armstrong walked on the moon when I was 5 years old.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I started working at Snappy Shoes as a stock boy when I was about 15. I took off from school one period early as a work study program. I eventually became manager of the mens store and worked there part time throughout college.I
What happened on your most awkward date?
I went on a few dates where I felt like I liked the human and hoped we'd be friends but had zero romantic feelings for them. This was perhaps awkward.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
I like the fourth or July, because I love our country and enjoy fireworks.
What is your favorite book? Why?
I am a voracious reader and love to read. The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous would be most impactful. However Viktor E Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning is probably in second. I am currently reading Justice by Micheal J Sandel which is helping me shape my perspective.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
One with eternal life. There are so many people that could be helped but we have so little time here.
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
Snuggle with my wife.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Praise You by Fat Boy Slim
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
I struggled with Alcoholism until I was 40 years old.
Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?
A little known role of the city council is to be a cheerleader for the city, bringing more tourists, but also educators, scientists, healthcare professionals as our city takes its next steps.
What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?
Strategic thinking and planning, practical/tactical administrative skills, communications skills, EQ as well as IQ, and compassion are skills that I bring that Las Vegas needs.
What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the local government?
Las Vegas is a vibrant community but also an international tourist destination. The City Council needs to support growth yet protect and not disturb our neighborhoods.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?
It could, although the City of Las Vegas is becoming its own worst enemy. The perspective of a fresh, sober adult with executive management and financial acumen is what Las Vegas needs.
