The judges of the Kentucky District Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections. They serve four-year terms and must run for re-election if they wish to serve again.

Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:

• a U.S. citizen;
• a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
• licensed to practice law for at least two years.

Election rules

Primary election

All candidates participate in nonpartisan primaries. If more than two candidates compete in a race, the two with the highest number of votes advance to the general election.
