Diaz confirmed to 4th Circuit Court of Appeals

North Carolina: Judge Albert Diaz was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit on December 18, 2010. He was first nominated to this position in November of 2009, making his judicial confirmation process the longest in the nation. Even after receiving a unanimous endorsement by the Senate Judiciary Committee in January of 2010, politics kept the final confirmation vote waiting for about a year. Diaz is currently a special Superior Court Judge for the North Carolina Business Court. He is 50 years old. Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan described Diaz as "a distinguished, fair-minded and well-respected judge." Republican Sen. Richard Burr stated that he "look(s) forward to seeing the excellent judgment that [Diaz] is sure to exercise in the 4th Circuit."[1]
