Welsh Assembly Powers Referendum, 2011
The Welsh Assembly Powers Referendum was on the ballot for voters in Wales on March 3, 2011. The measure was approved.
The measure was designed to allow the Welsh government to pass laws without consulting with the UK Parliament. Going into the election, the Welsh Assembly had limited power over certain policy areas but needed to request approval from the UK Parliament to pass new laws.[1]
Polls were open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011.[2]

Support
Those in favor of the measure argued that issues affecting only the Welsh people should be decided just in Wales and not elsewhere.[4]
Opposition
Those against the measure argued that the Assembly should not be given more power until it could prove it was able to enact changes that were beneficial to the Welsh people.[5]
