Beverly "Bev" Howard was a candidate for the District 4 seat on the Citrus County School Board in Florida. She was defeated by incumbent Sandy Balfour in the general election on August 26, 2014.

Biography

Howard has her bachelor's degree from Samford University and her master's degree in education from Grand Canyon University. She was an educator from 1971 to 2014. At the time of her tenure, Howard was an independent educational consultant, where she represented four different educational companies. She and her husband have two sons and four grandchildren.[1]

The August 26, 2014 general election in Citrus County featured four seats up for election. Incumbent Thomas Kennedy faced a challenge in District 1 from newcomers Thomas "Tommy" Corkery and H. Dean Morrison. Newcomers Doug Dodd, Quinton R. Herrin Jr. and Sheila Whitelaw were running to replace Patricia Deutschman in District 3, who did not file for re-election. Board member Sandy Balfour sought a full term in the District 4 seat against Beverly "Bev" Howard. Balfour was appointed to the seat in July 2013 by Governor Rick Scott. District 5 incumbent Linda B. Powers was running against Donna Fletcher.

The general election determines if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. If no candidate received 50 percent plus one of the general election votes in a particular district, the top two vote recipients advance to the runoff election on November 4, 2014.
