Candidate Connection

Carrie McBane completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by McBane's responses. Candidates are asked three required questions for this survey, but they may answer additional optional questions as well.

Expand all | Collapse all

1) Requesting a revisit, which would include a Town Hall meeting, if possible, of the Highway 107 expansion plan and it's potential effect on homeowners and businesses alike.

2) Making inquiries into various solutions, with a Town Hall Meeting, if possible, as to how to the Town of Sylva can modernize, maintain and beautify Main Street businesses so as to maintain and attract current tourism.

3) Start meaningful and purposeful communication about solutions to the Overdose Crises affecting our community and it's connection to our local local enforcement department.
1) I believe that revisiting the subject of expanding Highway 107 and it's potential positive or negative impacts on our community are of utmost importance. I believe that the community should be allowed at least one more opportunity to voice their concerns or consent/acceptance of the plans already in place.

2) I feel strongly, and believe, that the community's voice should be heard, and included on solutions as to how to modernize and maintain the look and feel of Main Street businesses.

3) I would like to see our local law enforcement and the community achieve a more communicative, stronger, solidified relationship.
I wish to follow my parents and sister's examples of how to better serve and interact with my community. My parents and sister, through their actions and words, have shown me that we all share a connection, regardless of education, cultural differences and upbringing. Our differences make our community yet at the same time celebrate our solidarity as ONE!
I believe that elected officials should be willing to be as transparent, as possible, about their intentions for making decisions on behalf of the community. I believe that accountability, honesty and compassion should play a key role in making those decisions as well.
I have learned, through self reflection, that I value and do my very best, to be a human being that actively listens, is compassionate, understanding and advocates for inclusiveness, equality and justice.
I don't have a legacy that I want to leave but the following quote summarizes how I feel now and how I would like people to remember me.
"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself." ~ William Blake
My favorite thing in my home are my Himalayan Salt candle holders. When there is a lit tea candle inside them the warm, amber color soothes my emotional and mental state. They are very calming to my busy mind!
Same Love featuring Mary Lambert, Macklemore
My struggle in my life is knowing and believing that I am worthy of giving and receiving love and that I can achieve my goals at any time in my life.
I do not necessarily believe that a candidate must have previous political or legislative experience for this particular office. We, as human beings, due in large part to societal misconceptions or beliefs, think that we must have extensive educational and political know-how to run for local, county, and even federal positions. It's a human being's inner strength, core values, ideals and community connection that should be the base for the confidence to run for a local office.
