Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on McTeague's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Money in Elections: We must work to repeal Citizens United and move toward public campaign financing or other ways for voters to get the information they need to make informed decisions. Polarization won't be solved unless we reform our CORRUPT CAMPAIGN FINANCE SYSTEM.
  • Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP): McTeague opposes the TPP because corporations selling cheap foreign goods-produced in countries with terrible labor standards and lax environmental protection so they can make a bigger profit is not a good trade deal.
  • Labor Rights: McTeague is a strong supporter of the rights of working men and women to unionize. He he will fight in the corner of organized labor on union issues and trade agreements. He believes in a living wage of $15 an hour because anyone working 40 hours a week should not live in poverty.
  • Social Security: McTeague is a strong supporter of Social Security. Social security is the most important safety net program ever enacted in the United States. It provides a minimal but base level of income for senior and disabled persons, without which millions would be completely destitute. I strongly oppose any cuts and oppose all efforts to "privatize" the system.
  • Renewable Energy and Climate Change: For decades McTeague has favored renewable energy resources like solar power, wind and conservation. He opposes the Keystone Pipeline. Our current energy policy benefits big oil companies like Exxon, BP, and Shell at the expense of average Americans.
