As of 2018, Kathleen M. O'Sullivan was a partner with the Seattle, Wash.-based law firm of Perkins Coie. On July 13, 2018, Republican President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate O'Sullivan to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.[1] The White House did not submit O'Sullivan's name to the U.S. Senate.[2]

On April 14, 2016, O'Sullivan was nominated by President Barack Obama (D) to serve on the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.[3] On January 3, 2017, O'Sullivan's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[4]

Education

O'Sullivan received her bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Yale University in 1991. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law School in 1996.[3]

Professional career

O'Sullivan began working at the law firm of Perkins Coie LLP in 1997. She was an associate there from 1997 to 2004. In 2004, she became a partner with the firm. O'Sullivan was a law clerk for Judge Margaret McKeown of the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit from 1998 to 1999. She was also a law clerk for Judge Harold Greene of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia from 1996 to 1997.[3]

On July 13, 2018, Republican President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate O'Sullivan to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.[1] The White House did not submit O'Sullivan's name to the U.S. Senate before the sine die adjournment of the 115th Congress.[2]

On April 14, 2016, O'Sullivan was nominated by President Barack Obama (D) to serve on the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.[3]

President Obama commented on the nomination, stating, "I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench ... They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court."[3]

The American Bar Association rated O'Sullivan Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[5]

On January 3, 2017, O'Sullivan's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[4]
