Whitfield County Magistrate Court

Shana Byers Vinyard was an elected magistrate on the Whitfield County Magistrate Court in Georgia. She won her first term in the office in the nonpartisan runoff general election on June 26, 2016. Vinyard had advanced from the field of fix candidates who sought to replace resigned Judge Kaye Cope in the general election on May 24, 2016. Vinyard resigned on April 1, 2019.[1]

Judges of the Georgia Magistrate Courts are either elected or appointed to terms of varying lengths.[2] The elections for this court type are contested and may be partisan or nonpartisan. To serve on this court, a judge must be a county resident for at least one year, be 25 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.[3]
