Monitor the new strategic plan goals and themes. Which will raise student achievement for all students: Raising the graduation rate; 3rd grade reading proficiency; increase college course work and career/tech ed. certifications will prepare students for college and/or the work force.
I believe every child should feel safe and protected at school. As an educator I have always fought for those who can't fight for themselves. I am passionate about preparing every student to be successful in tomorrow's world.
Better decisions can be made when an elected official listens to the public and affected stakeholders. I am always conscious of being open both personally and with the Board. I have always believed that you listen, seek information, study all sides and then make a decision.
I believe in the Wichita Public Schools. My work on the Board is not done. I can use my past education experience, time, and talents to help this large urban district to continue to advance forward. I want to give back by serving on the Board for 4 more years. WPS is at a critical crossroad to push achievement for all to the highest levels. I want to help guide that advancement.
The school board approves the budget, hires the superintendent, sets district policy and serves at a liaison to the community. I take each of those responsibilities seriously. I want to help make WPS a great district where ALL students can learn and grow into productive citizens.
I want to share my time, education, and knowledge to help the Wichita Public Schools educate EVERY student in a safe, caring and future focused environment.
Fostering partnerships is important. Two examples from last year are: Spirit and Textron worked with the district to develop the career strand to gain aviation certificates while in high school so students can immediately get high paying jobs at the plants. The partnership with Sedgwick County to place mental health professionals in our schools is a win- win for everyone.
Students need to learn to be on time, work in groups, use technology as a tool, and think and reason to find answers and use the information to solve real problems.
